The sport of tennis has been growing rapidly in popularity, but it’s not quite as popular as you’d think.
According to a new report, the sport’s popularity has been declining.
The Independent reports that the tennis shoe market has shrunk by over 25% in the last three years.
While the number of players has increased, the numbers playing the sport have declined as well.
“The tennis shoe industry has been undergoing a renaissance in recent years, and is now the largest sporting activity for the US and Canada,” David LeBlanc, president of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), told the newspaper.
“It’s still a relatively small industry.
It has more than 30 million shoes sold in the US alone, and that number is growing fast.”
The report noted that while the sport of basketball has become a huge hit in recent seasons, it’s actually the tennis shoes that are responsible for that growth.
“When it comes to tennis, the market is about 60% smaller than it was three years ago,” LeBlanch said.
“There are a lot of players, and we are seeing a lot more players, but that’s about it.”
The PTA has long been critical of the lack of attention paid to the sport in the media.
“There are so many hoops that are being played, so many sports, that there are so few stories about it,” Leblanc said.
